Organizational Mission/Profile The Educational Partnership of Central New Hampshire (EPCNH ) is one of five Tech Prep Partnerships serving New Hampshire. The focus of each partnership is the preparation of the emerging workforce for the high skill, high wage jobs of the future. Each partnership is responsible for the development and implementation of specific career pathways.EPCNH emphasis is on pre-engineering and manufacturing technology.
Instructors, Jim Brizzard and Lynn Darnell, (top pictures) work with the eight students who are training to be Project Lead The Way instructors.
Barbara Allen, Barbara Kelly, Gail Coffey, Rose Sacolick, & Pam Washburn are also training for teaching in mathematics, science & computer technology instruction and they, too are taking the course, "Foundations of Education", being given at NHTI by Plymouth State College.
This pilot project is a cooperative effort involving the NH-Department of Education, the Workforce Opportunity Council, New Hampshire Technical Institute, Project Lead the Way, and Plymouth State University. It focuses on preparing displaced Information Technology/High Tech professionals with an interest in teaching to enter the teaching profession through an Alternative Four Certification process.
The gist of the program is as follows:
The Workforce Opportunity Council can identify/recruit candidates.
The candidates enrolled in Foundations of Teaching offered by Plymouth State University at the New Hampshire Technical College.
A number of the candidates were trained to deliver one of the PLTW core courses (Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Digital Electronics) offered by New Hampshire Technical Institute.
This course was offered over the twelve weeks of the winter term.
Both courses were offered at NHTI's Concord campus.
Both courses required field placements with experienced teachers.
This project offers districts the opportunity to hire a teaching certificate candidate in math, science, or technology with a strong content background, who has also been trained to teach a PLTW course.
Built on the constructivist model, students participating in the program learn concepts and principles in an authentic, problem-based environment.A network of teachers (EbD™ Network) has been selected to collaborate and conduct action research in order to better understand the complexities of student learning and to help all students succeed and be prepared for the global society in which they will grow up.
Mission
We live in a technological world.Living in the twenty-first century requires much more from every individual than a basic ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematics.Technology affects every aspect of our lives, from enabling citizens to perform routine tasks to requiring that they be able to make responsible, informed decisions that affect individuals, our society, and the environment.
Citizens of today must have a basic understanding of how technology affects their world and how they exist both within and around technology.Technological literacy is fundamentally important to all students.Technological processes have become so complex that the community and schools collaborate to provide a quality technology program that prepares students for a changing technological world that is progressively more dependent on an informed, technologically literate citizenry.
Vision
The ITEA model technology program is committed to providing technological study in facilities that are safe and facilitate creativity, enabling all students to meet local, state, and national technological literacy standards.Students are prepared to engage in additional technological study in the high school years and beyond.Students will be prepared with knowledge and abilities to help them become informed, successful citizens who are able to make sense of the world in which they live. The technology program also enables students to take advantage of the technological resources in their own community.

To combat the shrinking interest in computer science and engineering among college students, many organizations are targeting school teachers.Programs where teachers get hands-on exposure to technology, in order to help students understand how such disciplines apply to the real world, are increasingly sprouting up.Bing Chen, head of the Computer and Electronics Engineering department at the University of Nebraska, and his colleagues created the Silicone Prairie Initiative on Robotics in IT (Spirit) program for both teachers and students. This summer, 32 teachers from local schools were invited to participate in a two-week hands-on engineering workshop."Frankly, our math and science teachers are not given many opportunities to explore engineering," says Chen."Our workshop was designed to give them exposure and build skill sets in this area." San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas, administers a program called the National Middle School Aerospace Scholars (Namas) that invites 150 teachers from eight states to year-round workshops where they learn about the aerospace industry. The program takes advantage of the nearby NASA Johnson Space Center. These programs all focus on making sure teachers are able to incorporate what they learn into their curriculum in order to cultivate interest in science and engineering.Simona Bartl, who coordinates a program in Marine Biotechnology and Bioinformatics run by California State University, explains that "only a few [teachers] had experienced doing actual research and being in the lab with scientists. Most had gone through science (teacher) education programs, where they just not exposed to these aspects of the field." By giving teachers a better understanding of what science is, on a day to day basis, students will be given real-world experience and relevant advice that can open them up to the opportunities presented by the all-too-neglected fields of science and engineering.
Basketball Project
Kris Kent identified a problem within the school district. The middle school basketball hoop was broken/torn down.Kris met with the Building and Grounds Director and various school personnel.Kris and his father took down the hoop and brought it to the engineering classroom.Kris has since disassembled the hoop and is refurbishing the parts. He will then redesign and replace the broken features. To be up this spring/summer.
Sub-Division
Derek LaRosee, J.J.Scott, & Rob Parker are working towards their EDD project. The project mentor is Bill Parker with Milford Town Building and Planning Department. The students are learning the zoning and building regulations for Milford.A requirement is that the parcel of land they selected be an actual parcel in Milford, then sub-divide the property.
The students must show well, septic, topography, frontages, and other applicable requirements.
collision of god.
